Liverpool target Athletic Bilbao midfielder Mikel Jauregizar

Liverpool are interested in signing Mikel Jauregizar from Athletic Bilbao in the summer transfer window, according to Anfield Watch. The report has revealed that the Premier League club’s scouts have been impressed with the 21-year-old midfielder and believe that he is the ideal candidate for manager Arne Slot.

The Reds were keen on signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad last summer. The midfielder was all set to move to Anfield before he had a late change of heart and decided to stay at Sociedad. Arsenal are now expected to complete a deal for Zubimendi, with Liverpool having moved on.

Jauregizar has only just established himself in the Bilbao first team.  The Spain Under-21 international has scored three goals and provided three assists in 45 matches in all competitions for the Spanish club so far this season. Liverpool have already won the Premier League title this season, while Bilbao are fourth in the La Liga table with 64 points from 35 games.
